Today is an ‘I hate my digestive ssytem’ day. Nothing like having to run off to the bathroom all the time to put a damper on your day.

I’m looking at the annoyingly complex and obfuscated documentation on the ATO website, trying to get a handle on this ABN business, as I’ve picked up some extra work which hopefully should pay for the Melbourne trip.

It’s funny, people get really pissed off with computers and software for having bad documentation, but it’s sort of expected when it comes to tax. If any piece of software had docos this opaque, people would be lynched!

Blarg.

It’s System Administrator Appreciation Day today! Have you hugged your geek today?

From memepool, This is a board topic started by a girl who was about to have an epileptic fit and wanted to share the sensations.

Here’s a quote:

I can see all the colours now. under your skin! look at your hand. do you doubt that you contain an infinity of shades? tone and chroma chapter and verse. you are the book of madder-rose and indigo. my hands will be taken soon, for a while. but how lovely that i can speak colour with my hands, while the time lasts!

Amazing.

Is it just me or is the prospect of getting spider silk (now known as BioSteel (TM)) from a goat’s udder both exciting and disturbing. Exciting, because it seems to be the first step towards many of the things I’ve been reading about in sci-fi since I was a wee lad, and disturbing because, well, it’s spider silk from a goat’s udder! Really!

I had one of the best days I’ve had in a long, long time yesterday. Reading and a picnic in the park with Trang, and then hanging at Louise’s and a BBQ at Mal and Elspeth’s. Excellent.

I’ve gotta know – why is it that people expect support for their systems when they seem to go out of their way to fuck them up? Last night I got a call from a phone technician who needed full administrator access to the network in order to upgrade some software. I didn’t even know he was going to be there. It pisses me off that people will arrange other people to come in and fuck with the delicate balance of the network and then will ahve the hide and the audacity to be pissed off at me when it breaks.

Yay! Sorted out the at-home net thing.

Haven’t been posting much. I did manage to get the problem in the previous post sorted out, but bigbox (the linux PC in question) decided that SCSI hard drives weren’t necessary and stopped recognising them for some reason. I’ve started building a new box, but currently my cable modem is not connecting (a Telstra fault), so I haven’t been able to finish it. Here’s hoping I can be back online at home very soon.

Current stuff with me:

Work got real busy. This morning. I mean really busy.

I’m doing some other semi-casual work as well. The money will be nice, but it looks like I may need to go the ABN/ invoicing route.

I have to sort out my accomodation/flight to Melbourne for Manifest, the Melbourne ANIme FESTival. Should be fun. I’m hoping that I can get my shit together enough to go to at least one day in costume.

I spent the day furniture shopping and hanging out with Trang yesterday. Man I love that girl…

Hoo boy, that was a busy weekend. Helping my parents move was exhausting. Hardly surprising, given that the nine ton truck they hired didn’t fit all their stuff.

So, what’s new with me:

Bad news first: I’ve managed to kill my linux box at home. Looks like it’s a reasonably esoteric error involving PCI bus mastering. Bugger.

Good Excellent news next: Trang and I are back together. Mega Yay!
