The lack of internet at home is a very frustrating thing, especially when you’re used to having an always-on (practically) net connection. (Thanks Dave!) Unfortunately, confronted by the plethora of options available to those seeking internet at home, and struggling to reconcile this with administering a network at home, budgetary considerations, the merits of broadband, and so on, I’ve been a bit paralysed.

And to top it off, I’ve finished all of my current games except D2:LOD, and need to save money, so no new games for me.

Anyway, that’s enough whinging. On the plus side, I’m off to Newcastle this weekend with Trang and Helena for some relaxation. Hurrah!

Well, I’ve just figured out how the Blogger archiving process works, and have updated the archive config and the front page so that it is accessible.

Reading over it, it seems the overarching themes of my postings have been:

  • It’s been a long time since my last post
  • Intellectual property is evil, EVIL!
  • I’m busy

Anyway, Palm<->Access integration, via Perl and Samba, is proceeding nicely. I think I might need to tidy this up and release bits of it once it’s done.

Anyway, gotta go. More wallpaper on the way soon.

Alas, I’ve been mired in a swamp of failed dependencies. I think I’ve had enough for the day. I’ll go and work on my other project: getting the perl<->Palm libraries working and sorting out a custom hotsync program.

I’m currently compiling the XML-expat library on my Linux box, so I can have a crack at Blogger in Perl myself. I really, really, like having access to a real development environment.

Yay! Finished Deus Ex.

I’m posting this from a funky little app called blogBuddy. It’s a win32 app that lets you post directly to your blog via Blogger’s new XML-RPC API.

It’s still in development, but both the app and the API are very nice.

Signs you’ve been playing Deus Ex too much

  • You walk into the foyer of an office building and are struck by a compulsion to shock the guard with your riot prod, hack his computer, and turn off all of the security cameras in the building.
  • You walk into someone’s office and start opening all of their drawers, desks, filing cabinets etc, on the basis that there’s probably valuable items there, and trying to read their email, on the basis that there’s probably valuable clues there.
  • You are in a car park and start to crouch-walk so the inevitable guards won’t be able to hear you.
  • You keep wishing you had an automatic friend/foe identifying reticule superimposed on your vision, so you would know which people are agents of evil government conspiracies.
  • You are consistently impressed with how lifelike the architecture of buildings is.

Scary part is, the first one did happen to me, and I was tempted by the second on walking into a friends office.

I’ve got to finish Deus Ex so my life can return to normal. (Well, as normal as it gets, anyway.)

Arrrrrrrr captain - posting slackness ahoy!

There’s a number of things for me to say:

Firstly, Deus Ex rocks my world. Even better than System Shock 2!

Secondly, I hope someone finds the person who wrote the Sircam worm and does horrible, horrible things to them, preferably involving hot pokers and nether regions.

Thirdly, I got my megatokyo and gameskins shirts! Thanks Rom for letting me borrow a portion of your credit card! Mmmmmm, geeky t-shirts!

Fourthly, should be finding out some honours classwork results on Fri. Fingers crossed!
