Well, it’s been a busy weekend of Olympics shenanigans. I thought the opening ceremony was quite cool, especially the cauldron craziness. I had a grand old time chuckling while I imagined the cans talk…
Went to see Australia v Nigeria in the soccer, and that was certainly entertaining. The women’s hockey on Sunday night was also very cool.
Only one more thing left to go to: Judo on Thursday afternoon. Should be fun.

Slashdot | IP Tunneling Through Nameservers. Some crazy people have put together a protocol that allows the use of IP through a nameserver, allowing you to use Microsoft PPP connections for free! Free Internet for all! Hurrah!
Well, another day another blog…
Found this link to an article in the Journal of Electronic Publishing about how the overplaying of ease of use in computers is contributing to that ‘digital divide’ that journos are always going on about. I think that a lot of what this guy says is right on. For another interesting take on this see Neal Stephenson’s essay ‘In the beginning was the command line’, another reason why Neal Stephenson is one of my favourite writers.
It’s amazing that this GUI craziness really can make you forget what an amazing piece of technology a computer is, and just get annoyed when it doesn’t work, instead of thinking of ways to make it work. Blah, what a long sentence. Anyway, read ITBWTCL (the essay) to get a better idea of what the hell I am talking about.
Well that’s just lovely. Freeservers have decided to use popups. Time to see about moving on, then. Well at least it shouldn’t be too difficult, given that hardly anyone knows about this place…
In a more news-related item, I am planning to do less wallpapers, and try my hand at book-cover making. Seems to make it a bit easier to find something to do.
More news from today’s web trawl…
GameCenter has a preview of the Diablo II expansion pack up, with a stack of screenshots, and some new info about the new classes, the Assasin and the Druid.
Mental note: check out Cowboy Bebop at some stage. Looks like a mighty fine anime. I guess that’s next on the list after serial experiments lain.
Props to Mr /. for this bit of craziness: A Cray Y-MP C90 is being offered on ebay for $US35K… see here for the story, or here to go to ebay itself.
Sorry for the americanism. “Props”, Hah! I have been reading far too many American geek websites..
Ah well, time to get to work, I guess…
Note to anime fans / otaku:
If you are like me and are interested in grabbing your favourite anime on DVD, check out AnimeOnDVD. This is a kickin’ site full of reviews, and even a list of ‘easter eggs’ (or ‘omake’) on anime DVD’s! Guess it’s time to try and find the Macross Plus omake…
Well, It’s been a while since my last blog, but things have been a little busy…
I’d just like to shout as loudly as possible about my three-year anniversary with my girlfriend Trang. It’s been an amazing three years, and I love her very much.
Sorry for the sentimentalism, but it had to be said.
We now return you to your normal programming.
